Christmas Eve was spent with our new room mates Sabrina and Hans, two 30 year old Austrians…..after a number of beers, pisos and wine with some scotch, it was 2 am Christmas Morning. Hans brought out some Austrian chocolate which was shared amongst us and we finally hit the deck.
Antonio had us out the door by 930am and on our way to some remote volcano…..dormant I hoped. It was Christmas morning and as we made our way to the route he had chosen we encountered bumper to bumper traffic….what the ?…..I thought…..Antonio became impatient and ran up the shoulder, I followed. About 1/4 mile up the hwy all the traffic was turning left into a large cemetery. It wasn’t until my return that I realized that the Spanish mark Christmas as a special day to visit lost relatives and to bring flowers. Passing more farm land we finally saw the mountains in the distance, abandoned building along our route Getting close to the ski hill, interesting structure with trunks of trees as main support. Bus stops every few kilometers and buses running what seemed like every 1/2 hour. That looks like snow…… a pretty water fall near the resort, must be from the melting caps. mixed vegetation pine and bamboo shoots…strange combination though this road looks ok,its hard on the butt…very course stone up a steep road to the Resort and under construction. A company offering tree top canopy tours Resort Rock Climbers
We turned at this point as the going was tough and missed seeing the volcano top………….. Christmas Dinner, thanks Antonio for a delicious pasta meal and to Hans for his specially prepared avocado and tomato side.
Tomorrow we part company with Antonio and I planning to change the oil, then head south.
