Canoa Still Stationary - January 26 2019

Planning a ride with Rob White from Sudbury Ontario next week........looking forward to logging a few K outside of Canoa..........Back home with weather in the low minus category my Home Town, Bracebridge is having it's annual ICE & FIRE FESTIVAL.......main street is closed off with a large hill of snow added to natural hill making it steep for tube sledding. This has become a popular annual event with numerous vendors with individual games and food along the main drag. The park has been turned into a skating rink which is open both during the day and evening.
The bandstand below will feature live music venues throughout the season......when I was as young as 8, having moved here from Sudbury, I have fond memories of lining up in -20F after the Santa Claus parade for a bag of  candy given out by St Nick

A wonderful community to be raised in........

Looking forward to February 5th when friends Vicki & Doug from my home town arrive and hopefully my friend Julia from Kazakhstan will show up around that time.
My Peruvian bike from my trip here last year has been sold along with another X-Terra to a German couple.....Toby is forwarding the $........

Canoa Trivia Night-January 22 2019

At Trivia night the world became smaller as I met Rob White from Sudbury Ontario who knew my uncle Frank and cousins. While we were talking and they learned I lived in Bracebridge they asked if I knew Paul Hawgood.....of course I do and his daughter Kassie who is a recording artist living in Sudbury......somewhat shocked Rob's wife says Kassie is my great niece.

Ok....we thought we would win but out of 40 questions we only scored 24 ...last place out of a 4 teams....3 tied for 1st with 26 points......though I am sure someone played with our points.....

Maybe next week

Canoa Loitering-January 22 2019

Having recovered from alcohol poisoning, I am escorting Deb and Al to Trivia Night at The Surf Shack, a bar in the village which will be attended by a number of American, European and Canadian x-pats. This is a popular regular Tuesday night affair.

Just received an email from Toby at Around the Block Moto Adventures in Huanuco Peru that my X-Terra last year's transportation here is likely sold along with another X-Terra to a German couple............so looking forward to the cash to prolong my stay here....

Think I will drink Agua this evening.........

Sunny Day with temps hovering in the high 80'sC...... I miss HOCKEY..... Their is a chance I might make it back for the North Bay PlayOff....Though I am likely on waiver's......next year I will need to consider if I should extend my career  or retire down here.

Canoa Update-January 20 2019

Not a lot to report other than I have friends arriving on the 5th of Feb for a month and looking forward to seeing Vickie & Doug Hanna.........hoping to do some travel via Wanderbus Tours when they arrive.https://www.wanderbusecuador.com/passes/
Yesterday, Don and I showed a couple from Minnesota the micro brewery outside of Canoa. It is approximately 7k from town in Jungle like setting on a ruff road made worse by the recent heavy rains. I have now swore off drinking as the result of this visit......I was sicker than a Dog upon arriving back and collapsed on the bed at 6pm.......the brew is 8 & 9% alcohol.

Here Don and Al and wife Debra are trying to decide on which brew to order for our table......I would later wish that I had not partaken.....

as you can see by the red face I have already had too much.....Pictured above Al...a real DANE from Denmark his wife Debra, the 3 Colombian backpackers from Florencia which is on the edge of the Amazon.

The owner of the brewery .........and wife in next picture along with husband who has changed cloths and hat.....we had been there that long...haha

Don on the dance floor learning the Romba from the young Colombian......

a passerby on the mode of transportation outside of Canoa.

This morning Don and I went in to the Coco Loco for breakfast though I was still suffering and settled for coffee....

couple surfers outside of Sundown heading to the waves....

these next 2 are for my Son who is an avid bird photographer

Sunset the other night....much the norm here.

The Temp here is about 85 F @ home in Ontario Canada it is -21 F or -30 C

Canoa Ecuador-January 11 2019

Chilling the past 2 weeks......rain storms kept me in doors and reading. Usually clears up by noon....locals say they have not seen this heavy a rain in a few years. Night before the rains in the uplands brought heavy debris into the Ocean and this morning a walk along a previous near pristine beach is a mess.

erosion from the water coming down from the highlands bringing the debris along the beach.
