December 31st 2019-Disappointment/Ecuador

Quotes of 2018/ 2019 resolutions with the permission of Rosie Gabrielle being carried into 2020

" To Become the Best Version of Myself " and " Break my Heart for what breaks yours '

A few days ago after much anticipating of arriving in Quito meeting up with my friend (in my mind adopted daughter/niece) I learned of a problem in registering my moto....I was not registered with "The Transit Authority"......this was not going to be a game changer I had been through similar processes in Chile/Peru....so I went on line and located the Transit Authority and informed my friend that we could manage this especially as she spoke Spanish....just a hicup I thought.

Christmas is about to roll around and I ask my friend what she is doing for Christmas.....she is going to meet up with an American Biker she met while sourcing my bike and show him around the coast. Something she has been doing as an excellent Ambassador for Ecuador riders and how we met. " Don't you be running off with this American" I say. The reply is something to "not going to happen"

Well I was '' TRUMPED "......she receives an offer of a new to her 650cc bike if it can be found, all expensed paid tour of South America as a Spanish Speaking Tour Guide to start In January. This becomes understandably a tempting offer but with some pitfalls.....mainly losing her residency for Ecuador and disappointing me. I had to override my personal feelings and endorse this proposal with the one tripidation......she is like a daughter to me....Is he an upstanding guy.....my limited research says YES. This is a great opportunity for her and I wish them a memorial and safe trip.

As I had a smaller trip planned out of Ecuador which was to be with the company of this outgoing, smart , intellectual woman ........ emotions have interrupted my plans.....  I cancelled my trip...the bike purchase was now a no need and a refund is to be deposited to her account by the seller. However, I have a committment to a friend and 3 of his colleagues for an 11 day self guided tour January 26 through to February 6th. I have rebooked my flights to and back for these dates.....

One's future cannot be decided by a single moment in time and I must move forward and not wallow in self pity.....so stay tuned as I forge ahead.

Attached is a link to a the Canadian girl above who has experienced heartache and depression become an inspiration to many with a huge following and with her permission I share both Quotes and a link to her facebook resolutions made in 2019 and carrying forward into 2020.

I just realized that when I changed my Blogger Name that I lost most of my readers who had joined the site.......not being a tecky I do not know how to link them back as I have no site addresses.

THE CAPTION IS JUST A JOKE

The bikes have been allotted ......hopefully the route back to Sleipners original before I tried to alter it. Below are the bikes which we will use....my 4 amigos are using the 300cc Hondas...as I was suppose to have my new bike............ I had a choice of the Susuki V strom, one of 2 I own or the Susuki DR 650 which I chose. Riding with my friend last year ...she using a 200cc IGM and I a 250cc Motor 1 proved that these bikes are well suited for both the asphalt and off road gravel: as well, blending  with the locals who for the most part ride 150cc bikes. Obviously I will need to heed my speed not to leave the others in my dust.....

I wish to put a plug in for IGM a Chinese moto assembled in Cuenca. A possibility exists that my friend will be representing the distributer with one of their Adventure bikes for her trip.

I will spend most of the Winter and Spring pursuing my other 2 passions.....ice hockey and downhill sking which I have missed the past 2 seasons.......Maybe Europe or New Zealand for the New Year.....all suggestions are welcome....Michel and Mickel what are your plans....Athir are you up for a long distance excursion....let me know how Colombia fares for you and your spouse next month.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

Alternative to Transporting Your Bike or Short Duration Adventures-Dec 18 2019

This is for those on The Horizon Unlimited site / Adventure Rider and the many armchair followers of my blog who are undecided in shipping a bike do to costs for their Adventure. If this is holding you back or your not retired and can not go exploring for long periods.....their is an alternative.

Consider flying to places like Ecuador and renting a motorcycle ..... you can book both a guided tour or self guided tour wherein the tour operator will give you choices of days/route and make all your lodging arrangments/sight seeing spots all on a GPS equiped moto with each days destination and attractions. I blogged of two such trips in the past. Though I am currently more stable in Ecuador I am about to do another with friends and my niece this coming January 26th. At the moment, we have not decided on wether it will be a self guided trip arranged by our operator with rooms or just a bike rental and we will arrange our own route over 11 days as well as booking rooms.

The Company we are working with is   https://ecuadorbikerental.com/ you can read about the offers here.....I will be posting the events and experience on the blog with pictures.....our group has chosen a 300cc honda
The company is operated by David Garcia and he has a wide range of motos' from 1200 cc down to ours .......all big brand names  KTM BMW Honda Suzuki and Royal Enfield.....

I look forward to keeping you up to date on this Adventure .....

Motorcycle Purchased-December 17th 2019

Today Yulia put a deposit on the purchase of an Axxo Tracker 250cc bike at Casa Exito in Quito Ecuador for me. We learned that licencing of the bike purchased after the 25th would not occur until near the end of January.....so I was fortunate to have Yulia  (Julia)( my adopted niece ) travel from Canoa to Quito to arrange the details in order that the bike would be ready upon my arrival the 6th.

not sure if it has wire wheels or cast as it was crated in the warehouse.....it will be what it is...

Arrangments have been made with Hostel L'Auberge to pick me up at the Quito airport 6am on the 6th of January.

An interesting fact.......Casa wants a 2 day notice of pick up to get the correct # plate for the day, Apparently the last # on the plate identifies what day of the week you are not allowed on the streets of Quito......bike confiscated and big fine........must be something to do with Smog and Traffic control

Looking forward to my return

THANKS JULIA

Preparing to Return to Ecuador-November 18th 2019

January 05th 2020 will be my return date to Ecuador. Air Canada as at December will fly directly to Quito Ecuador 3 times a week.

I have decided to purchase a motorcycle in Quito upon my arrival and have narrowed my choices to 4. My Russian friend Julia is in Ecuador and has been kind to assist in this endeavor as she is multi lingual. we will meet on the 6th and visit Casa Exito and Marcimex Co. in Quito. Below are my considerations....

The Grand Tourismo is 200cc and $3200.00 USD......Julia has recently met with the owner of IMG who distribute the brand and may get a deal on a demo which will be introduced at the Horizon Unlimited meet in Ecuador November 22nd.......the Orange Axxo is currently the leading contendor due to the price and bags...followed  by the Daytona 200 as I like its looks......but would add the bags....The Adventure is a nice looking bike but from past experience the seating long distance is not very comfortable...

A friend who has joined me twice on trips in South America will be arriving on January 25th with his son and 2 amigos to enjoy an 11 day Self Guided Tour with Sleipner out of Quito. Julia and I will accompany this group with David Garcia of Sleipner having arranged all the accommodations ,bikes etc with GPS daily routes to follow.......more to come on that as it happens....

Stay tuned........

\\

It has been my experience having had 3 different Chinese bikes in South America that you do not need more than a 200 to 250cc bike to enjoy the roads of South America if you are one up....though many have ridden the length of SA 2 up with luggage on less. The cost of shipping your bike 1 way from North America, Europe, Africa or Australia is more than the price of a brand new Chinese moto .....these bikes are dependable and easy to have repaired at low $ .......why wear out your BMW or Tiger/Suzuki/Honda..... Insurance and licence is around $200.00.

Stay tuned..........

Sunday Julia planned a trip to the beach town of Cojimies which is about 133 k from Canoa
This was a full day with stops along the way for photos and lunch at the beach....we checked out a beautiful gated community on the way back near Jama.......complete with tennis courts and an infinity pool over looking the ocean. Pictures will follow as soon as I can get them off the phone...having a technical problem.
