We were up early and on the Blue Ridge Parkway by 7:25 am…………deer on the side of the road…….must be careful. Sun was shinning for the early part of the day, then heavy fog, a little drizzle and by mid afternoon it was Sunny again. GREAT FOOD exit the Blue Ridge on Hwy 56 into the hamlet of VESUVIUS VIRGINA……now this is rural america at its finest. Needing a caffine fix we ask if their is a place nearby and we are directed to GERTIES. Inside we meet the nicest people and strike up a conversation which leads to some politics. Now my bike is sporting a BIG OBAMA/BIDEN STICKER. If you go back to my blog a couple days ago you will know that the state of Virginia in 1863 was split apart……..the west joining the union and the balance the confederacy. Asked who I would vote for I was honest and said Obama..well this sparked a friendly debate: after all it seems that the democrats are unionist and republicans confederates and we are in the state with the latter. Pedro was hitting on gramma who was 82 but he said you don’t look a day over 65 so this broke the tension…While Pedro was joking with the lady in blue and Gerty who was in the kitchen I was engage in conversation with Josh who wished us a safe journey and asked for our blog site….welcome along.
We find ourselves on rural roads #208, 231 which are not on our maps, smooth narrow pavement with numerous twists and turns…..scenic beyond words. We enter Lexington via hwy 60, picking up hwy 11 to James Bridge then #43 back to the parkway where we encounter heavy fog for the next few miles.
We are hold up at Fancy Gap, VA. approximately 259 miles from our 1st destination…the Horizon Unlimited Meeting in Robbinsville NC.
Good pick on Obama
