We packed early, our last hour in Ushuaia was in a light drizzle…..we filled our tanks with fuel and climbed into the mountain ……upon descending the rain let up. It would later return for brief periods as we struggled with the winds on 189 k of gravel……..at one point we came upon a Tractor Trailer rolled unto it’s side…….sorry no pick …it was so windy we couldn’t stop……..finally we arrived at the port after a gruelling 400 k ride 1/2 on gravel. Along line of cars and trucks greeted us but we rode to the front of the line…..5 hours passed before a Ferry showed up. This was due to high winds making it dangerous to load and unload The boat waiting for calmer seas Antonio and some fellow riders trying to get cover from the wind…….5 hours would pass before the boat landed.
Its 1 pm when we arrive on the other side……..again high winds….no place to pitch a tent without it blowing away……we let the traffic go ahead and then follow…….an hour later….so tired that I am having difficulty following the road……we exit on a dirt road to find the hamlet, Punta Belgada……..the hotel is just closing and we score a room for 20 pesos………includes breakfast……………wet/tired and hungry, I shower and fall asleep……not even bothering to unpack the bike……
to be continued….
