Day 9 & 10-Cape Breton to NFL-June10 13

 

Woke up to a slight drizzle, loaded the bikes and headed for the Ferry in North Sydney…about a 45 minute ride. The web site showed booked for the 11.45 am crossing but we thought they might be able to fit us on. We arrived at 7.30 am….the am crossing was cancelled due to bad weather…apparently these new boats built in Sweden are unstable in certain conditions……so we booked for the midnight crossing…thats almost a day from now…so the time was spent walking about and sitting in the terminal. two lonely bikes. passing time. my swollen foot…think I broke that second toe…set the bike side stand on it….da…last Monday. bikes tied down …soon all this will be packed 3 floors plus the bow with mostly Tractor Trailers at a cost of $ 700.00 per crossing 1 way…..94.00 for the bike and rider. 7th deck where we tried to sleep. watching them load the trucks they pack them on. Don, at the food trough the dinning room the tuck shop at 3 am computer room the bar…another round Don Port-aux Basque on the 10th our landing site on NFL…backing in settled in at Corner Brook for the night.

Sorry for falling behind in the posts, but a nagging foot injury has tired me out. It is better today though still swollen.

Back to day 6 which was Thursday, our departure from Lake George. Our ride took us out the bottom of the lake on Route 9 which was quite twisty and hilly just what we bikers enjoy. The weather was overcast but dry. We made good time except for the fact that I stopped often looking for stickers for my bike mostly to no avail.

We rode into a small town in New Hampshire where the streets merged at the centre of town. This could have been any mid western town from the 1800s. Parking in front of the only cafe in town, we ordered coffee and sat outside watching this sleepy little town go about its business. I had asked about stickers and was referred to the town hall…the big brick building on the corner with the Sheriffs office next door. She could have easily just pointed it was kitty corner to where we stood. So over I saunter leaving Don to tend to our rides. The girl at the old wooden desk flashed me a big smile and I immediately fell into some kind of trance…..I pictured me popping the question and her reply….you al want a sticker then just buy a girl a drink over at the Saloon…..I was about to say sure when she jumped up and smiling like we where long lost buddies asked how she could be of help…still in a stupor, I popped the sticker question….her answer brought me back to reality…Walmart in the next town, maybe. I could tell that she wanted to be of more help but I was at a loss for words and bid fair well.

We stopped for the night in Farmington Maine. Next morning we headed for Calaise Maine or St Stephens NB. The ride was under cloudy skys but no rain…..everyone we encountered warned us of the pending Tropical Storm. We spent the evening of the 7th night in St Johns in an over priced 50’s vintage motel….my kind of place but with a 4 star price. It was well under the 5 star so we took it…. Calaise Maine…the girls at Urban Moose gave me a sticker….ya

Day 8 we awoke to a torrential downpour, packing the bikes and fighting strong wind gusts all the way to Baddack Cape Breton where we landed a nice room with a view for a reasonable price. What a nice guy to let two completely drenched motorcyclist into this place….tomorrow is suppose to clear and we are hoping to board a ferry to Port-aux Basque NFL. Still raining but this turned to hail…give us a break..I’ve been pushed off the hwy twice today at 100k using my feet to hold the bike upright is almost pant filling……..

Day 5- Americade Lazy Day 2

 

 

We took it easy today….up and out for breakfast at 8 am then wondered up to Fort Henry and looked over the demo bikes. Plenty of competition for rides…this is just a portion of the parking lot.

My go pro remote switch arrived….still needs to be installed as I require loan of the Hubble telescope to read the instructions which are in a book 1/2 inch thick no larger than a packet of matches.   Bikes received a bath, oil change with mine shod with new knobbies that I carried from home. So we are ready to continue the adventure….tonight finds us trying to finish off the beer in our fridge…looks like Don will outdrink me as he got an early start.

Day 4- Americade- Lazy Day

 

 

This was a day of rest for the most part……I have been suffering with a sore little toe….feels broken…makes walking tiring and pain full….likely a hockey injury acting up…….

 

Today we rode into town early and had breakfast at the old Bank Cafe….then out to Queensboro Radio Shack as I had left my Camera’s Charger at home…..new one in hand, we visited the Forum a building that housed more Vendors…….then it was back to our Motel for rest and relaxation.

Tonight we had dinner down the road from our motel. Don looking happy that I chose a Bar…..he was thirsty…..

Next stop, Lake George to view the running of the bikes….    The co pilot has spent to much time in the sun……….what’s keeping my husband ? What,…he is with another man !

Ok “D” this one is for you….Bennie is tired of that little house and wanted me to show you this one…”hey, Mom, its time for a bigger home….I will even have room to pee. and God and Queen save America I would like to post but the internet must be off….so will post later……weather has been great…..rain expected Thursday afternoon….hopefully my GOPRO accessories which I ordered in Canada will arrive here tomorrow…they shipped from California…….

Day 3-Americade Lake George NY-June 3-13

 

Woke up early to a bright sunny morning………. not a sole in the pool nor anyone at the bar….

With so little happening at our lodging we decided to try the Tikii Motel in Lake George….Patsy & Frank Beynon had recommended this place…for a great breakfast……excellent….Thanks.

Next was registration directly across the road at the Holiday Inn……we were early so stood in line for 1 hour.  

 the line of motorcyclist would soon stretch down that sidewalk and around the corner…..we where in the 1st 20 inside the building….next off to the vendors area where we parked in a very soggy field…the dual sport aspects of our bikes came in handy.   entering…the vendor area …..lots to see….hey Don out of my way I am taking pics of the vendors… wonder what they are selling….hey Don…I’ll catch up later.

If you need anything for your bike….you can get it here and installed…..it was after the girls had lost interest in me that I watched Don spend his retirement savings on Denali Fog lights…..at Twisted Throttle who also installed same……while they did that Don dragged me up to J & M Communications where he had me part with my piggy bank jar ……purchasing a wifi communication system with Full bluetooth capabilities, GPS, Iphone, MP3, FM radio and bike to bike talk on the go….and its the size of a credit card….wow technology. If it just had 3d capabilities with my camera….I could take in some …….next year…LOL

Day 2- Ride to Lake George- June 2-13

 

Up early 6 am raining cats and dogs…….torrential downpour, our bikes are dry, their under the entry. Load the bikes with all the gear, enjoy a continental breaky hoping for a dry spell. God answered our prayer, armed with the Ferry Schedule which Pedro had printed for us back in Cobourg and which I had mistakenly interpreded as sailing at 735 am. We arrived at 720 to see it sailing from the Doc……a review of the paper work indicated  715 am….next sailing 830am. Its now raining, fortunately a Tim’s is next to the terminal. loaded and enroute to Wolf Isl.  Next Ferry to NY was much smaller….basically a raft……..Customs was a breeze, though I was asked if the Go Pro was off……..ok you can go……..

That’s Don……in the Fog on Wolf Isl Stopped for Cafe and noticed that Lowville NY must be the Diary Capital in these parts.

  Don’s GPS took us in the wrong direction and we resorted to the old paper map….soon found a great place to have lunch in Old Forge a busy village with White Water rafting.

Now in Lake George at The Adirondack Diamond Resort…..a 3 star with a 5 star price tag……..Don had to ask for hangers and we had to listen to the rules……..more tomorrow

Day 1-Ride from Gravenhurst to Kingston-June 1 13

 

On the road at 11.30 with Cobourg as our 1st stop to meet with my Central America ride buddy. Met at Tim’s for coffee and a short chat, introducing Pedro’s new bride to Don.

Then onto Kingston and checked into the Super 8…..just in the nick of time as we no sooner had our bikes under the entry and down came the rain……..torrential it seemed. Crossing to Wolf Isl. by Ferry in the AM , then on to NY and Americade at Lake George for 4 days….before heading for Bar Harbour Main, NFL and Labrador…..  Departure Pics
