Santiago Day 58 Feb 7 14

Prior to my decision to cut short my trip by avoiding Bolivia and Peru, I had been contacted by a Dutch couple , Ivo & Petra, we met at this hotel back in December. They were in Peru and informed me that the region was experiencing heavy rain as it was the regions rainy season which occurs during the summer months. Antonio’s plan was to camp in these two regions as the weather would be warmer…..putting up and taking a tent down in torrential rains is not for me……seen enough rain on trips of this sort and with a rain suit that isn’t doing the job, I pass…wimp out if you like.

I just read in the news that Bolivia has had 5 times the amount of rain that they had last year…….over 40,000 inhabitants are isolated and in need of food and fresh water supplies….38 people have died from flooding, roads are washed out and the army has been mobilized to help in the stricken areas….mostly the central and area NE of La Paz……..I have tried to contact Antonio, noting he has not been on line since I returned to Chile at least not when I have been. I know that internet service is not as available in Bolivia as elsewhere so I suspect this is the problem……..

An opportunity to sell my bike came up last night but as the interested party is flying into Mendoza Argentina on the 24th and I fly home the same day…….had to pass….no time for the paper work…..CRAP…….Today I also found out that I needed my permanent Rol Unico Tributario ( RUT ) in order to sell my bike……..so of to the Servicio de Impuestos Internos-Chile ( SII ) I go….281 General Canto ( this is for Antonio ) where we got the RUT…….they had my permanent card and even though I forgot my passport, the lady took pity on me and I got it ( Antonio have this plus the 2 pcs of Temp Papers with you )……this card is good for life so you won’t have to get a new one next year but it is kept at that office for only 6 months then destroyed if not picked up.Santiago Feb 7 14 002 Left over Pizza with a Merlot 2012 from Frontera…central Chile Winery..$1490 pesos Less than $ 3.00.
