Full Day Prepping Bikes Huanuco-Dec 1 2017

Toby and Sarah prepared a great breakfast.....spinach & kale omelette, fresh fruit salad, side of avocado the size of grapefruit,fresh buns and homemade jam...juices made from a cranberry type fruit harvested in the Amazon Jungle...We are hoping to get away before 7 am tomorrow but their is a problem with Ken's bike.....it apparently has a slight front wheel wobble and they are having a new shaft machined locally.....the delay is frustrating as one would have thought they would have noticed and fixed before our arrival. It is now 3:15 pm and still waiting on the repair......but this is manana,manana.
Ken and I took a walk up to a Hacienda near by that was a couple hundred years old and slowly being brought back to life.....most have been something in it's day. It is still in the family and the pics I am about to post taken from the rooftop terrace at Toby's shows the area which was all sugar cane plantation....now developed into a suburb. I went up to take some pictures but the place was gated. as I was about to walk away a gentleman who I presume was the caretaker opened the gate.....I asked in my poor Espanol if I could take some photos....he asked me to wait in sign language while he went for the owner...5 minutes passed and the owner introduced himself and I replied " lo siento mi espanol no es muy bueno....he laughed and replied nor his English...we shook hands and he invited me in to take photos explaining that it had once been a large plantation.......how did I know....was able to understand a couple words as they are almost the same in English. Meanwhile Ken, who had gone for a walk while I waited at the gate was locked out and missed the tour.

 You will note re bar sticking up on the roof tops of many of my pics.....though parts of this subdivision is 10 years old....the owners don't complete the project to avoid higher taxes.......you would thing the government would see an opportunity here to pass some legislation to increase revenues.

It is now 7:25 pm and our bike are still being prepared, though mine was just a dead battery.

Ken's bike has the wheel axle fixed but the rear rack was hitting on the swing arm and they have decided to cut the rack and widen it............ 

BUS TRIP TO HUANUCO PERU-Nov 29/30 2017

Nov 28/29 walking tour of part of Lima.....traffic is a nightmare both auto and pedestrian most notably at intersections. Though they have traffic lights with pedestrian seconds counting down, as well as, intersectio Policia waving a wan....it seemed mass confusion to us with all the traffic working at times against the signals, cutting lanes, near misses between bikes, cars and numerous buses cutting one another off.....but it works...lol

Policia Barricks....no pics allowed but I had already taken...place is entire city block with guard houses every corner of building that is totally walled off.

Lima Peru-Day 1 continued Nov 28 2017

THe Hostel Iquique our residence until the 29thRoom on the 3rd floor not good with luggage and no elevator   Our 1st lunch.....pollo sopa including a foot...Ken you didn't eat that ?????

Before lunch we trek  about el centro with Kenny hell bent on finding a Geo Cache in the park to no avail..........not happy,

After lunch Ken was feeling knackered with that foot scraping the sides of his belly and we ended up crashing not getting up until 8:30pm. We walked around the block stopping at a cafe for hamburgaesas, one Pollo the other Carne, Ken, why are the Papa Fritos inside the bun as a topping.....   

Arrived In LIMA-Nov 28 2017

We arrived late in Lima at 2;15 am..........by the time we arrived at the Hostel Iquique it was 3:30am. The taxi driver Ramos pushed the buzzer at the hostel and awakened the operator. It was 4:45 am by the time we hit the sack and up at 6am. Breakfast over at 7:15 am and down the street a 5 minute walk to the Migracion Office to get the Permiso a Firmar Contratos....a procedure that we learned is to be done on line after paying first at any Bank National in the country who issue a receipt with a number to get the printout Permiso on line. Fortunately for me, the chap ahead of me at the Migracion Office, Damian, an English International Student Placement Co coordinator took us through the procedure and we used a travel agency for the on line part.

Taxi Directo, our taxi service just sent me a thank you for using them along with the route we took early this morning.

Ken and I will take a walking tour of the area as we are not scheduled to bus out to Huanuco until tomorrow night at 10pm for an over night trip through the treacherous mountain terrain. Maybe their is a reason to keep you from looking over the side by a night excursion. Welcome Peru Addition-Nov 21 2017

I am a happy adventurer today, as my amigo Ken Wettlaufer, has purchased a flight ticket to accompany me for the 1st 3 weeks of my 3rd South American trip.

Ken and I took a self guided trip with Freedom Tours of Ecuador this past February. Toby Shannon of Around the Block Adventure Motorcycle Tours in Huanuco Peru is prepping a 250cc Cross Triton for Ken with only a weeks notice....big thank you to Toby.

  Toby has also put a suggested route together for us which will take us to Cuzco and the village of Aquas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu. If time permits we will visit the Colca Canyon which is the deepest canyon in the world.

So stoked to have company for part of my 4 month journey......Nov. 27th is getting close.....Next report will be from Lima Peru....

Packing For Peru/Ecuador-Oct 2-2017

I ran into a weight problem in my pre-pack.....I had planned on using the same carry on type suitcases on flights which I used on my previous South American Trip in Chile/Argentina. I am taking my own helmet this time, heavier riding boots, tools and a tool tube pushing the weight up on my checked luggage. This led to me contacting Toby regarding the aluminum panniers. These are still in production and will not be ready but Toby has soft bags and I have purchased the ones above......
