Quebec Day 2- June22 14 Lachute to St Simeon

On the road by 8 am after a light breaky at Tim’s…….perfect weather until Ste Anne De Beaupre a slight drizzle for a short period. Again 138 was a fun ride with smooth twisty run through dairy and sod farms along the St Lawrence. Though the speed limit is 90 you are forced to slow down through the many quaint villages along the seaway.Lachute to St Simone June22 14 001  Rest stopLachute to St Simone June22 14 002

Quebec Day 1-June 21 2014

8 am, clear skies, Don and I are off to Quebec intending to ride the North Shore of the St Lawrence to Pointe-Parent. Beyond this point you need to take a Ferry which services a number of villages along the coast to Blanc Sablon. Last year we crossed from Newfoundland to this village which is at the eastern edge of Quebec …..from this point you pick up the gravel road that takes you to Goose Bay Labrador. We will turn back at Pointe-Parent possibly to Bay-Comeau and cross by Ferry to Matane Gaspésie.

Quebec 2014 1st Day 001   10 am coffee break at Tim’s in Bancroft where we met another Bob from Sauble Beach on a 1983 R100 BMW heading for Ottawa. He to has the adventure spirit and has done the Trans Lab Hwy.

Quebec 2014 1st Day 002 Quebec 2014 1st Day 003

I am sure these farms near Renfrew date back to the early settlers and it is common to see these relics, uninhabited next to modern homes…..I assume the families just cannot bear to tear them down…..so much history….

North of Renfrew we picked up # 4 which led us into Quebec…………….Quebec 2014 1st Day 005   crossed this river AT A HYDRO DAM and into La Belle Province. Soon we picked up 148 which snaked its way through a number of villages and farmland. At Montebello, we had to detour as the town is closed to traffic…….cars are lining the roadways and tents are set up along the tracks, in peoples yards….just everywhere. Something called Rock Fest is going on and by estimates 100,000 young souls have descended on the town….so no chance of scoring a room there……we are currently in LaChute at the Laurention Hotel……..Quebec 2014 1st Day 012  Quebec 2014 1st Day 017

Prepping for New Adventure-May 14 2014

The Long Weekend has arrived…temps in Muskoka 5 degrees C………where is Spring ?

Departure date is June 21st but I am itching to get back on the road, to make that date seem closer , I am packing early. Ordered new Motorcycle Boots which are 100% Waterproof…..should arrive today. The route will likely take us through Algonquin Park over to Renfrew. The loose plan is to take 417s past Ottawa to Pincourt, crossing under the 401 to Beauharnois taking #30 to 132 along the South shore of the St Lawrence to Levis, crossing to the North Shore at Quebec City. Here, we will pick up #138, Route Jacques Cartier to Caisse Desjardins and Kegaslea Isl. This is the end of the road, from here you need to catch a Ferry to go further. At this point we will backtrack to Baie-Comeau and catch a Ferry to Mantane on the Gaspie.      https://www.google.ca/maps/@45.9161429,-75.0742799,9z?hl=en……..more to come……….

Yesterday Le Quebec Maritime Tour info on THE LIGHTHOUSE TRAIL arrived……..the St Lawrence River is dotted with 45 Lighthouses, all of which are said to be located in beautiful sites. The Lighthouses are a mixture and of working lights, restaurants and partial conversions to hotels. They span the Gaspésie, North shore of The St Lawrence,Anticosti and Iles. de la Madeleine. All are accessible some by Ferry………the plan is to spend 2 to 3 weeks enjoying this area by setting up camp in 2 or 3 places and daily excursions to cover the sites……likely the end of June…….still in the planning stages….

Santiago Last Day in Chile-Feb. 24 14

Map picture

Antonio contacted me today to let me know he was in Arequipa Peru….Arequipa is the second largest city in Peru with a population just over 800,000. The city was founded in the 1500’s and has many picturesque colonial buildings dating back to that time….though fires and the earthquake of 1888 had a big impact on the early structures. The Monasterio de Santa Catalina founded in 1580 by a rich widow, is over 20,000 sq meter complex is just 1 of many majestic buildings………..Overlooking the city is EL Misti a volcano hissing sulphuric gasses but otherwise dormant. It is a climbing attraction in the area for the view……don’t think I would feel all that comfortable living next to it……

Tonight, I fly out to Toronto arriving around 6 am…………
