Dec 6th to 9th 2018-Illegal in Ecuador

Thursday rode into Bahia Caraques to AccuAssist a law firm specializing in Visa/Extension etc......to see about a problem I had entering Ecuador and to have what I believed was 46 days left on my current entry from Feb 2 2018. Plus I needed a 90 day extension to get me to my flight home on March 26th 2019.
Advised that I needed to see a lawyer in Manta, 134k away...ok...appointment made for Friday at 9:30am. Up at 5;30am and out the door at 6.....arrive following Gps route to close to where I need to be....stopping a # of times asking for directions as no street signs here...finally after 1/2 hour I locate the office......Fernando, my lawyer briefs me that I need to to the MITIGATION OFFICE which is a long way away ....how the H... will I find that...take a taxi..so away I go...I'm to find out how many days I have left in the country officially....I already know the answer 46 and what is likely to transpire....after my driver having a hard time finding the place he says he will wait for me....bare in mind we are communicating in some sort of sign language as I don't have a clue what's being said.

Two pretty girls are in the office...lo siento, no hablo espano; hablas Inglis...the girl applying makeup and staring in a compact mirror simply points to the other senorita, the prettier of the 2 I might add. She seems to have expected me, so the lawyer must have phoned ahead. She asks for my passport and ticket that I had to purchase at a bank for the check on my status. She is very polite and inputs the passport # while I stare...t noticing that both senoritas are sporting bright red lipstick. Funny how your mind wanders at times. Out comes the Mitigation Printout...you never exited the country since February 2nd 2018....huge penalty maybe imprisonment......but your passport has the exit stamp....we need to get colour copies of your passport with this stamp and send it to HQ in Quito...ok...let's do it'''sorry the lady that needs to witness your signature is not here. We agree that I can do this 1st week of January....back to the lawyer with the document which shows I didn't exit and that the computer can not determine the # of days which is easy to calculate if you look at a calendar and my passport...but hay this is how bureaucracy works.

I go for coffee, intending to head back to Canoa and think about the lawyer saying that the woman was suppose to be there and that the office would be in a different location when I returned....this is South America....they have a saying when you ask when...manana manana...meaning tomorrow which could be tomorrow or a month from now. I return to the law office and have them phone to see if the lady will be there later today....Yes...but I must be there between 2 & 4 it's 12:30....I think I can find it...so in heavy traffic I depart and watch for familiar landmarks....I find it and am surprised to see them loading desks and computers....no one told me today was the move...I gather up the papers I need and file in past the movers....a number of people are ahead of me and the girl who looked after me earlier has the lone desk and computer......I am called out right away and soon the info is in the computer and papers signed to be sent to Quito....I give the girls an Ontario Flag pin and head out for Canoa. They will let me know by email if I am legal or to hide as the border agents will come for me.

Ok enough of my rant.......no pics taken but will post some of my 1st failed venture in 2012 to South America with my friend John Carnie former Helicopter Pilot with Ont Hydro.....

Canoa Ecuador-Day 5 Dec 5 2018

Today was uneventful except for a trip into Bahia Caraquez to visit EcuaAssist a law firm specializing in Visa and Residency Applications.......I think I have 45 days left of my 90 day 2018 visit as at my new entry date November 28th....I did have a hick up at customs upon entering due to the fact the computer indicated I had not checked out of Ecuador in March...but my passport had the exit stamp....a supervisor was contacted to review this gringo's passport and I was stamped in....not sure for how long but was told to get the extension ASAP which is 90 days....well that won't work as as soon as the extension is granted your 90 days begin and I am booked until late March with my flight out on the 26th......which means I need the extension to start in January not December......not sure what will happen...the law firm needs to review my in and outs the previous trip......I think the worst case scenario is I over stay my permit....maybe they will arrest me at the airport as I try to leave. This time I have a rental Ecuadorian moto so it is safe. In the interim, the police hopefully won't know I am illegal as my passport has the Visa stamp as if I had 90 days...even the lawyer didn't pick up on that until I explained the situation....hope the Prison food isn't just rice and I am not young enough to be someones bitch.

No that isn't me but it could be....they circle about for an hour picking up the updrafts from the ocean....this is happening above me at Sundown....I have pre register Julia, Vicki and Doug to try this in February while I film from the ground.

Canoa Ecuador-Dec 3/4 2018

Late getting away yesterday from Olon where I picked up the bike and installed the Gps plus Ishia took the bike to a garage to have the oil changed as he didn't like the light grade in it....plus the chain was quite loose. Arrived at Sundown in the dark at 7;15pm to a warm welcome from Juan Carlos and Alexandra....sure like the hugs and kisses which seems to be a common trait here.....each time you meet a day apart....more hugs...lol

I have been given 1 of the 2 suites....Don from California who has been here six years has the other...we are right at the beach with the rest of the resort behind us...Alexandra and her mom live upstairs.

I took a few shots of Ushia's home in Olon just so you have an idea of housing in a gated and full time gate attendant....

 $100,000.
Ishia and a young lady who purchased this 150cc Honda both her bike and mine arrived Friday

 Ishia returning with my bike
 my unit on the R

 view toward the beach

spent the afternoon in the hammock

Shower will accommodate an entire family...

Tonight , I am invited over to Jeff and Carols to see the home they purchased last year but didn't move into until after I left.......it is next door to where Ken and I stayed in February........this is the most expensive home sold on the beach....was owned by an artist from the US who's pieces sold for $10,000 plus. Last year , I met his wife who was sad to leave but due to her husband's health had to.

Montanita Ecuador Day 4- Dec 2 2018

The plan today was to go up to Olon and install my Gps but I contacted Ishia and asked to do this tomorrow, as I am booked here for tonight and have no place to safely store the bike.....so tomorrow I will be picked up and become acquainted with both Ishia and the M1R.

So just a few more pics about town....
R&L&C picture of beach which is busier today

the park is being decorated for Christmas

Picture across from the door to my hotel...restaurants and bars line the streets along with vendors of all sorts,,,hawking their goods but not pushy
Hablas Inglis, si.....great I want to ask about your bike, I am picking mine up from Ishia tomorrow....O...you are getting the NEW RED ONE...my bike was purchased from Ishia. I mention Around The Block in Peru and he says he knows Toby and Sarah and had also purchased a bike from him in the past. Josh is from Alaska working and riding the area in the South American summer and returning to Alaska in our summer to work so he can make $ to enjoy his time here....does work at a bar down at the end of the beach.

On closing must mention that the street partying lasted until 4:30am. The music blasting from all the bars mixed together was deafening even for me with poor hearing....the windows actually vibrated. It seems only one volume HIGH........

Montanita Ecuador Nov 30 -Dec 1 2018 Day 2/ 3

Last evening while having dinner the gentleman I met earlier walked up and asked if I found my bike...turns out the Bar his son owns and I spent the afternoon looking for The Quebecois is across the street....4 buildings from my residence.
I invite myself to join Michel Robichand for a drink at the bar. He orders a double rum straight up...I'll have the same.....needless to say after having a quart of beer with dinner, I would sleep through the night despite  the blasting music from all the bars which likely lasted until 2 am...even then from the previous night's experience the party goes all night....it's Friday and the streets are packed......here their are street vendor bars in front of bars.
vendor bars next to bars and across the street from bars. There are actually 3, another set up after I took this shot......
pescado y papa fritos doble con cerveza grande.....$6.50
 Michel and son Zachary

I also had the pleasure of meeting Zachs beautiful Ecuadorian girlfriend but was not bold enough to take a pic

Zac has been here for 11 years and owns this upscale bar/restaurant and in the process of completing a complete make over of a hotel he purchased. Thank you Michel/Zac for the drink......
A group of Old Timers from Quito and Guayaquil....one odd bike in the pack a Yamaha Adventure moto
Should I show them a pic of my 250cc moto...not...lol
 Breakfast $4.50

a stroll along the board walk

Should click on this one to get a better perspective of those boats

The Harleys' and 1 lone Yamaha have left the house

Ishia contacted me with a pic of my bike's arrival last evening...he is installing the rack today and will be down in the morning to bring me up to Olon so we can install my Gps.
